Merlevenez, a local council set amongst
pine trees, whose name means "Montjoie" and recalls the Templars who built its
church, Notre-Dame-de-Joie (12th 13th and 15th
century).
Merlevenez spreads along the ancient Roman road from Nostang to Port Louis. You will find
natural settings rich in vegetation with huge salt meadows. Some places are amongst the
most interesting along the French Atlantic coast.
Merlevenez has two listed historical monuments, of which a 12th century church
richly decorated with stained-glass windows by Gruber is the most outstanding.
